Pansies for Lauren, A stumpwork and pulled thread sewing case
2 day workshop for intermediate, beginner level stumpwork but experience with counted thread
Description: It is a pleasure to stitch with your favorite sewing tools close at hand. Even better when
they are stored in a beautiful work of art. This small case measures 4 Y2 inches long by 4 inches wide. The
front of the case is dominated by the exquisite pansies. They appear to float above a ground of pulled
thread. The back of the case is decorated with a pulled thread border. The case opens at the top revealing
a fmished interior that includes needle pages, a small pinwheel, a place for your favorite scissors, and a
scrimshaw ruler. Class time will concentrate on creating the pansies and leaves. The kit includes
Edinburgh Linen, Soie De Paris, Soie Perlee, Trebizond silk, Au Ver A Soie, Soie d' Alger for the pansies,
Soie 100/3 for the leaves, all finishing materials and the beautiful ivory scrimshaw ruler designed
exclusively for this project by Marcy Pumphret. Please bring wire snips, and a basic sewing kit to class.
Finished size of design area: 4 Y2 inch x 4 inch sewing case, finished interior and exterior
Techniques: Emphasis will be placed on the use of wire, the silk shading in the leaves and petals, and
construction of the flower. Additional time will be spent on the pulled thread stitches and the finishing
techniques. The stitches used in the design include backstitch, blanket stitch, couching, French knots, long
and short, satin, stem, whipped stem, wave stitch.

template plastic for the finishing, a silver bar and circle closure, scrimshaw ruler. The kit contains all of the
materials needed to complete the project
