CLASS TITLE: Summertime
Teacher: Margaret Bendig
In class, we will explore the joys of working with silk and stitching on
this
cheerful canvas sampler. Summer Time is composed of 40 different blocks in a
variety of stitches in addition
to the border patterns. The
purpose of this project is to
study the effects of light on
silk and patterns in a design.
For two days we will discuss
the use of silk, silk laying
techniques and pattern
usage. You have the choice
of two different color ways;
each color way has two
over-dyed silks in addition to
eight solid colors. Come
prepared to have some fun,
learn a new technique or a
few and spend a couple of
days in the joy of stitching.

Kit Contents: 50 pages of printed instructions, color copy, needles, and
all
threads needed to complete the project. The project can be kitted in two
different color ways: blues, yellows and cream on white congress cloth

CLASS TITLE: Evening Bag
Teacher: Diane Clements
A counted pattern of golden stitches and lustrous beads is worked on
cream
linen over a gold mask to create the rich texture behind the featured reticello
pocket on this evening bag. The lace is composed of wrapped bars, large
cloth
stitch pyramids worked around a square, a buttonhole stitch band with
one
thread bars and Venetian picots. Small
obtuse bars outline the central design.
The “purse hardware” is a dense
pattern of beads edging the opening at
the top of the slender bag. The purse is
interfaced, lined with silk, and ends in a
shaped fringe of bead lines to complete
the elegant look. A golden, twisted
cord serves as the shoulder strap and a
magnetic snap closes the bag. Class
time will be primarily spent working on
the lace with some time devoted to the
gold and bead embroidery.
Construction techniques will be
discussed.

was
adapted from a simple Chinese paper cut. These include blackwork, pulled

pattern
with gold accents. The pair of regal birds and the floral accents in the

add a naturalistic touch to the design.
The lantern and mat outlines are counted to insure perfect symmetry, and
a
poked hole pattern will be executed as prework to establish these
contours. The
threads used include cotton floss, pearl cotton, fine velour, Japanese
gold,
Marlitt, Coronet braid and Cordonnet.

CLASS TITLE: Piñata Party Time
Teacher: John Waddell
We are going to take the shape of
a piñata and color it with the six
(6) major color points from a
color wheel. We will fill the
areas with a variety of shaded
eyelet stitches. We will each
deconstruct the given stitches and
choose from the four (4) shades
of each color point to develop a
shaded eyelet stitch or stitches for
each color area. A metallic
thread will be used in each area
for accent. Between each of the
areas we will add a wrapped
backstitch using the two (2)
adjacent colors to form the look
of a cord. The central element
will be nosegay of silk ribbon
and embroidered flowers. To
accent the festive nature of the
party we will couch two colors of
a multi-colored yarn to represent
serpentine and sequins will be
used to represent confetti. As a
last finishing element we will add two handmade Mexican mugs to help the
party along!
